The casing of the camera looks and feels robust. The lens, sensors and solar panel all came with protective covers that I peeled off. Then setting up this camera was straightforward. After charging the internal batteries using the USB cable I put in some rechargeable AA batteries and the 128GB SDXC card, slid the power switch to the "setup" position and powered it up. I knew from the product info that I needed a class 10 card so it formatted with no issue. Out of the box there are two ways of mounting the camera - a metal bracket than can be screwed to a tree or fencepost allowing the camera to be positioned at different angles, and a long strap that slips through tabs on the back of the camera body and then wrapped around a tree. Those same tabs are really strong so I passed a cable tie through them so I could mount it onto my fruit cage. Once mounted it revealed a feature I hadn't thought about but think is good - the catches on the body can be opened and body which is hinged on to the back can be swung open to reveal the internal controls and the SD card. This can be done while the camera is in place on its mount so you don't need to take it down. Results so far have been good. I set mine to maximum quality for both video and picture. You can choose whether to take pictures, videos, or both. I haven't got many wildlife shots but I have managed to snap the dog wandering around the garden in both the day and night. The sensitivity of the motion detectors seems good as it caught the dog moving at the far side of the garden - about 10 metres away. The night time shots are (obviously?) in black and white, but the resolution/quality doesn't seem to be compromised and you can zoom in to see a decent amount of detail. The phone app, which is installed via a QR code on the inside of the camera back, allows you to configure the camera and retrieve captured footage. The app uses bluetooth to establish an initial connection and then switches to a private wifi link. Range is supposed to be limited, but I am able to connect each morning from inside the house in the room closest to the camera. Using the app I set my camera to only record between 10:30pm and 7:00am - times we are typically not in the garden. As previously mentioned I set maximum quality and a video length of 30 seconds. The app interface is pretty clear with a live view, controls to allow you to take pictures or videos, setup the camera, or most commonly for me go to the SD card and see what has been captured. Photos and videos are presented separately as small icons and you click one to view it. Obviously there's a bit of lag while a large video is retrieved from the card and transmitted to the phone. There are download buttons to save the photo/video to your phone's camera roll (and then cloud sync to my laptop for better viewing), or to delete, and you can perform mass actions by selecting multiple photos or videos. It's all pretty intuitive. I haven't owned a wildlife camera before and to be honest I'm a little disappointed about the lack of overnight action in my garden, but despair not as I have access to a community veg & fruit garden that's plagued with rabbits and deer, so I'll be putting it up there in a few days.

Having previously bought a TC22 camera from the same manufacturer, I’m focusing this review on the differences between the it and the TC08. The case of the TC08 is very different from that of the TC22, the TC08 being chunkier than the TC22. Externally there is a mounting thread to the rear vertical side of the TC08’s case (not the bottom as on the TC22). This appears to be to provide a suitable mounting point for the flexible wall mounting bracket that comes in the box, which I’ve yet to try. If you’d rather not use the bracket, you need to be sure your tripod’s head can rotate to fit the mount. Both models come with straps that allow you to fasten them to, say, a tree or a post. Internally, the layout is a lot different to that of the TC22. This is due to the battery – the TC22 has a lithium 4400 mAh buried in there somewhere but the TC08 has 4 AA batteries behind a panel which means you can easily change them if you need to do. I personally found the TC22’s layout and buttons more intuitive and easier to use. It’s worth noting that the TC08 takes a micro-SD card, whilst the TC22 takes a full-size SD card. In terms of functionality, both cameras have similar specs. The TC08 captures higher resolution photos than the TC22. The quality of the video, especially the nighttime video, feels better on the TC22. This may be due to the TC22 having a higher video bit rate and a starlight lens for night shooting. Both cameras can be accessed remotely using a Wi-Fi connection via an app. You can play with the settings, view the live feed and access the stored images. I had a few issues getting access to the TC22 via the app when I originally bought it, but Voopeak’s customer support was excellent and rapid (the very first thing you see in the supplied instruction book tells you how to contact them). Of course, having learned from my mistakes, I had no issues with connecting to the TC08 via the app. You can also transfer photos and videos to your phone’s photos feed using the app, but, as with the TC22, I found it slow, especially when you have lots of to do, and quickly decided to pull the card out and use a dedicated card reader. Deleting photos and videos is a little painful via the app, so I delete the card content on a laptop once I’ve got the images off it, formatting it occasionally. Just to note that the TC22 creates separate folders for photos and videos, whereas the TC08 creates a single folder and allows you to switch the view between photos and videos. I can’t comment fully on battery life as I’ve not used the TC08 for very long. My experience with the TC22, however, would lead me to expect that it will rarely, if ever, need charging via the USB connector as long as there is sufficient sunshine for the solar panel to work. In summary, as the price of both cameras is identical to at the time of writing, you might want to choose based on how you intend to use the camera. Both cameras take very good photos and videos, and given the price point, both represent good value for money in my opinion. I’d maybe go for the TC22 for its video capabilities but the TC08 for its photo capabilities, but you won’t be disappointed with either.

Very solid wildlife camera... Ordered as we have a deer trail running behind our property and would love to see these guys out there... Design is ace, the mount is high quality, sturdy and easy to adjust the angle, we have some trees to fell at the moment so I have set this up in a temporary location with the simple strap provided in the box. I haven't managed to get any pictures yet as I have not got the position quite right, needs to be lower! But the app is pretty good, the photo and video quality are good and the rechargeable battery is perfect! I did put in the AA batteries as suggested, I would imagine they will last a lifetime though!! Highly recommended and good quality photos and videos as well!!

Always wanted a WildLife Camera and I have not been disappointed with this purchase. The packaging was top quality and the camera was so easy to set up. I did have to contact customer support and they came back to me with in 2 hours and explained what I was doing wrongly😜The key thing is read the instructions - everything is there and more👍👍 I wanted to try and get to know where a Heron was taking our fish and the very first night I solved the mystery!! We also have what I thought were nice under our decking and I moved the Camera - first night again I had a shock - it’s either a massive mouse or a rat😳😳😳 Picture quality is brilliant - and the Night Vision superb. I bought an SD Card off Amazon and it’s great that you can insert it and remove it from the camera just by opening the back. The Solar Panel has kept the Camera topped up so no worry about re charging yet! You will inot be disappointed - money well spent and a great Company to deal with👍👍

Setting up the trail camera was an absolute breeze! I found the perfect tree in my backyard to mount it, and I couldn’t be happier with the camera's quality. I can see my dogs playing outside at night before we bring them in, which is just delightful. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity mean I can check on everything from my phone anytime. The daytime shots are glare-free, and the night vision is impressively clear! What I love most is that it’s solar-powered, so I never have to stress about power outages or dead batteries. It’s so easy to download the app, which connects via Bluetooth, allowing me to look back at previous days’ footage and zoom in for more details. The app is simply fantastic! This camera works just like a regular camera but also includes features like thermal detection, motion detection, and night view. If I were to buy a similar type from a store like Bass Pro or Academy, it would cost around $100 to $150 or even more. Plus, there’s no subscription needed for this one! Overall, I feel this camera is a fantastic value for the money we spent. I’m thrilled with it!

The media could not be loaded. I am very impressed with my Voopeak TC08 wildlife camera. The unit is very robust and feels like it is built to last. I have had it out in all manner of conditions for a few months now and it is up to the task. Having the built in solar charging is a must in my opinion. I have had zero worries about power levels as it is always ready to go. Importantly, setup and use is quite well laid out. Just a few minutes getting to know the setup menu and you are good to go. After that, all you need to do is power up, and jump into the app to control all settings. Again, the app is easy to use. I set all of the still image and video settings to the best possible and with a 256GB card installed I am set. For the standard uses it works well. Picking up movement day and night with ease. I purchased this with intentions to use it for home wild bird viewing, which I am pleased to say worked out rather well. Since imaging of small critters a few inches away from the camera is not within the units focus capabilities, I found an easy answer. As you will see on the sample images, just adding a close up lens designed for a cell phone does the trick! I purchased an inexpensive 4 lens close up set and use the corresponding power for the distance that I am after. The most powerful lens gives me a focus zone of about 6 inches in front of the camera. Great for the smallest birds. Another bonus is that with the camera setup outside on a winters day, I can sit in the house, coffee in hand, and using the great wifi feature, see the live feed from the camera. That lets me remotely record video or snap photos as the birds arrive. Sweet! Since the 37mm close up lenses have nothing to mount to, a simple answer was to grab a package of Scotch Mounting Putty. Pull off a bit of the putty, put it on either side of the lens, clear of the sensors, and simply stick the close up lens rim into the putty. Voila! The putty comes off cleanly so you have no residue when not using close up lenses. Image quality for the price point is quite good I'd say. Especially in higher light levels. Bright, soft light works best of course. I do find that the stills especially are a bit "flat", somewhat low in contrast. But that is an easy adjustment in any photo editing app on your phone or computer. Adding contrast or black point makes them pop a bit more. Seeing the findings in the night has been fun. A nice video of a local Coyote on the ice was a highlight. As was the local Beaver cruising by in our creek. So yes, a highly recommended camera offering fine versatility and usefulness at its price point. And fun!
