Great for my needs (monitoring access onto remote areas or private land). Although it can be used for detecting wildlife movements also. Ideal for remote images sent to your phone via the Zeiss app (subject to mobile reception being available at the cameras location!!!! and a subscription plan). If you want images or notifications sent to your phone you will need a subscription plan and the Zeiss app (there are different levels of subscription). Otherwise it can be used as a standalone camera (no notifications) that you have to visit to get access to the images or videos it captures. From experience the camera needs to be mounted on a stable structure. For example if mounted high in a tree that is thin and easily swayed by the wind, it will result in false detections due to the tree's movement from side to side in the wind. Detection distance appears to be approx 20 metres from testing the camera and notifications of detections appear to be in near real time. Lots of options for capturing either video or images, although capturing videos appear to drain the battery quicker than just taking photo images. One downside is the subscription plan for the image transfers. If the image or video quotas are not used up in that months plan they are not carried forward to the next month so you cannot bank any unused transfers. You will have to do your own tests with the capture settings in the app to achieve your ideal frequency, quality and formats for the detection and notifications from the camera.

Was pretty worried that it would not be able to connect and send pictures as it’s in an remote area with very poor phone signal. Once it was up for 5 minutes it connected and has been reliably sending me pictures over the last couple of weeks and showing 4/5 bars of signal.Very easy to setup overall. Only negative so far has been the lack of a permanent mounting bracket. Wouldn’t of cost much to include one. I will give an update after a few more months. Plans are to add a solar panel/battery pack. So far I’m impressed and would recommend

I would advise not to purchase the Secacam 3 I bought three in February 2025 and two of them keep locking up and will not unlock unless new batteries are installed. Even 30% battery causes them to stop working and batteries last to 30% only 5 days with very few photos. Zeiss fail to reply to any communication other than directing you to their FAQ and that does not answer the questions about not working. Secacam 7s seem to work just fine

The issue with the Secacam 3 batteries depleting early, as reported by another reviewer, is fixed with updating the firmware. I do wish they would give back the SD card option. I get that having internal memory solves for SD card issues but on the other side it means waiting for the Camera to copy its data to a Memory stick and it uses up precious battery power. The SD benefit is all the data is removed when the card is pulled out and a fresh card replaced in under a minute. Given this, even though the camera is better is so many other ways, the 5 Model is still - at this time - my go to.

I ordered 3 of these cameras. Two work fine but the third one has never worked. Zeiss customer support is non-existent. I have been directed by Zeiss to a website which does not support customers in my country. I have spent the last month trying to ask for an alternative method of seeking support and Zeiss have not responded to any of my messages.

Good quality camera and performs well. But but at any place. You need strong 4G reception or the camera will not connect to the server. The first 3 spots in the field where i wanted to position the camera did not work. Had to find a plce with good reception for it to work well.

The camera (this and the new 7) is decent quality but despite the pretty picture on the box you can only get the pictures to your phone if your willing to pay between £10 and £20 a month as a “service plan” why would I pay 20 pounds a month to use the device I just paid over 200 pounds for? If you want to use your own data SIM the proprietary system will not allow you to connect. It’s a really bad way of tricking customers, can you imagine paying around 15 pounds a month to see what’s on your doorbell or the camera that looks at your dog sleeping all day. Shame on you ZEISS
